The importance of having a mentor or mentorship program I cannot emphasize enough.

It might seem exciting to go it alone and create something on your own. However, the reality is that, while you have a great idea, you may not know exactly what you should be doing to develop it into a sustainable business.

Starting a business is challenging enough, so if you can skip doing things the hard way, why wouldn't you?

Having a mentor is not a sign of weakness; it shows you are smart enough and are driven enough to succeed.

Reasons why you need  a mentor or mentorship program

  • Information and knowledge
  • Prevent making beginners mistakes
  • Stimulate our personal and professional growth
  • Offer encouragement and help to keep us going

Information and knowledge

With a mentor there from the start, you tap into a wealth of knowledge that gets you up to speed faster and shorter learning curve.

Prevent making beginners mistakes

A mentor has been there, right where you are, and has made numerous mistakes that they can now use as a basis for helping others to skip the devastating effects of not knowing.

He tells exactly where you are lacking and can improve those areas.

Stimulate our personal and professional growth

He will often pose questions for you to think about and ask to come back with answers later.

He would also set various goals for you and let you loose to see if you could accomplish them on your own.

He then will make a point to sit down and tell you what he'd observed about you through the project process, what he thought was worth keeping - and definitely what he would immediately throw out.

All the while watching from a distance to see how these projects help you to develop.

Offer encouragement and help to keep us going

The constructive criticism that a mentor offers helps you see things you could not recognize yourself.

He also focuses on character and values, which nurture your personal growth as well as your leadership abilities.

I have a mentor too (well actually two)
